The 22-year-old actor, known for his role in Prime Video’s popular Spanish-language film “My Fault (Culpa Miah),” found himself in a dramatic turn of events during the Venice Film Festival.
Italian state police arrested Gabriel Guevara on a Saturday, acting on an arrest warrant issued by France. The Venice court of appeals is now poised to make a critical decision on whether Guevara will face extradition.
It’s important to note that the charges against Guevara have no connection to any events or productions associated with the 80th Venice International Film Festival, as clarified by the festival organizers.
“Following the news circulating on various websites about the arrest of Spanish actor Gabriel Guevara in Venice, the Biennale wishes to emphasize that his presence in Venice had no ties to the 80th Venice International Film Festival,” the Biennale stated in a press release. Currently, Gabriel Guevara is under the protective custody of the Italian State Police while awaiting the ruling from the court of appeals. Only after the court’s decision will the extradition process begin in earnest.
In response to the arrest, Filming Italy, an independent event taking place alongside the Venice Film Festival, decided to cancel an award that Guevara was set to receive. They cited this decision as a “precautionary measure” until the outcome of the actor’s case becomes clear.
