Public health dentistry, dental specialty concerned primarily with prevention of oral diseases, is practiced generally through out-reach programs, which are for the most part directed toward dentally neglected population.
The department is well equipped with a mobile dental van with two dental chairs to render door step services, and also collaborates with various voluntary organisations to provide dental treatment to the needy.
The Department has three satellite centres which caters to the oral health needs of the rural population. Recently, around 180 government schools were screened for dental ailments over a span of six months. The Department actively conducted Oral Health Campaign (16th march 2015 – 20th March 2015) for the world Oral Health Day Celebrations by educating various sections of the society (Pregnant ladies, school children, young IT professionals and Geriatric population). A well –established Tobacco cessation unit run by the Department aims at motivating current tobacco smokers/chewers to quit the habit.
The strength of the department lies in the research activity wherein the department Faculty has 100+ publications to their credit.
