Netflix has just dropped the official teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel to the beloved 2000 animated classic, Chicken Run. After two decades, our feathered friends are back with a brand-new mission in Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget.
Back in 2000, Chicken Run made cinematic history by becoming the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film ever. Now, this long-awaited sequel is gearing up to premiere on Netflix later this year.
In this exciting teaser, we catch a glimpse of our beloved chicken protagonist, Ginger, who seems determined as ever to orchestrate a daring escape from a high-security farm.
However, their reunion with the villainous Mrs. Tweedy, voiced by the talented Miranda Richardson, adds an unexpected twist. Mrs. Tweedy, known for her past attempts to turn the chickens into pies in the original film, is back and ready to challenge our fearless flock once more. Dawn of the Nugget is brought to life by Airman Animations, the same studio that gave us the delightful adventures of Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. The film is directed by Sam Fell, known for his work on Para Norman and Flushed Away. (And for all you Wallace & Gromit fans, a new movie featuring the dynamic duo is also in the works for Netflix in 2024!).
The official synopsis for the movie sets the stage for this exciting sequel: “Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream—a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world.
When she and Rocky welcome a little girl named Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland, all of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. Director Sam Fell is enthusiastic about the return of Mrs. Tweedy, calling her “one of the all-time greats.” He shared his excitement about working with Miranda Richardson, who reprises her role after all these years, saying, “Now she’s out to take industrial-scale revenge on all chicken-kind with the Dawn of the Nugget.
We’ve had so much fun working with Miranda Richardson to transform Melisa Tweedy into the ultimate 1960’s super-villain.” Dawn of the Nugget premieres on Netflix this December. It’s a feathered tale of bravery, friendship, and daring escapades that’s sure to delight audiences of all ages.
