The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has launched a new portal for industrial policyholders. The portal, called the ESIC IP Portal, will help policyholders keep track of their insurance coverage and make claims more easily.
It will help save time and effort on the part of both policyholders and ESIC staff. Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has been serving the employees of India since 1954.
The organisation has over 3 crore members and 20 lakh families are benefitted from it. Any employee who is earning Rs 21,000 or less per month can be a member of ESIC. The employee has to contribute 1.75% of his/her salary towards the scheme and the employer contributes 4.75%.

There are numerous benefits of being an ESIC member. Some of them are listed below:
1. Health insurance – ESIC provides health insurance cover to its members and their dependents. This cover includes hospitalisation expenses, Out Patient Department (OPD) expenses, medicines, etc.
2. Unemployment allowance – If an ESIC member loses his/her job, he/she will be given unemployment allowance for a period of 6 months to help tide over the difficult times.
3. Maternity benefit – Pregnant women who are ESIC members are given maternity benefit of up to Rs 12,000 to take care of their medical expenses during pregnancy and delivery.
4. Disability benefit – In case an ESIC member becomes disabled due to an accident or illness, he/she will receive disability benefit for a period of 2 years to help with.
